Psalm 90, the oldest psalm in the Bible and the only one written by Moses, confronts us with an honest look at the brevity of human life set against the backdrop of an eternal God. Moses wrote it while watching an entire generation die in the desert, yet his message is not despair. It is a call to intentionality. To number your days is not to be obsessed with death, but to be sober about the life you actually have. The gospel of Jesus Christ is the ultimate answer to our mortality, offering us a dwelling place that death itself cannot destroy. God has meaningful work for each of us to do, and He will establish it. The invitation is to count what counts, run to Jesus, and serve His purposes with everything you have.
