The Box Elder County Commission approved a request Tuesday by Gardner Francis of Westland Development to rezone about 861 acres near Snowville from unzoned to MG-EX (mining, quarry, sand and gravel excavation), a designation that would make the property eligible for future mining proposals. Box Elder County Community Development Director Scott Lyons said the five parcels, located near Interstate 84 Exit 12, have historically served as a gravel source for the Utah Department of Transportation and Box Elder County, but not as a commercial gravel operation.
