In Rabbi Steve Berkson’s last teaching we learned that the inheritance, of which the larger portion would normally go to the “first-born”, was split between two of the sons of Ya’akov, his adopted son Ephrayim and his son Yehuda. Yehuda would receive the authority aspect of the inheritance and Ephrayim would receive the rest. Because of this split of the inheritance we see the birth of the Two House scenario, Israel and Yehuda (Judah) that continues to this day. In this teaching Rabbi Steve unpacks the statement given in 1 Kings 12 by Yahweh through His prophet, “This matter is of me.”, speaking of the split of the kingdom of Israel.
