People want freedom from authority because they think they know better, yet self-rule leaves guilt, shame and frustration. God promised David a lasting royal house, with His people secure in their land and His presence among them, if David's sons kept His covenant. They failed, and Israel lost its kingdom, land and temple. From David's fallen family, God brought Jesus, the good King.
