from KPFA - Cover to Cover Open Book · host KPFA
Amelia Gonzalez talks to author Julia Alvarez who has written several books including a book of essays, collections of poetry and children’s books and fiction-most notably, How The Garcia Girls Lost Their Accent and In The Time of the Butterflies which later was produced as a film. She’s in the Bay Area to talk about her latest book, Once Upon a Quinceanera just published by Viking Press. Once Upon a Quinceanera is a thoughtful and entertaining portrait of contemporary Latina/o culture, as well as a critical look at the rituals of coming of age and the economic and social consequences of "quince" parties.
