Covered – Week 3 | Covered With Joy
from Thrive Community Church · host John Roth
Shame can feel like a private prison: a steady, shrinking voice telling you you’re unworthy, unlovable, or simply overlooked by God. Many of us carry that quiet weight—embarrassment that won’t wash away, the chronic sense that something is wrong with us rather than our choices. At the same time, some assume God is distant, too busy for our small problems or secretly disappointed in who we are. This message treads through the prophet Zephaniah to show a different center: a God who is moved by our suffering (pathos) and who delights in us with loud rejoicing. Rather than leaving shame to fester, God meets it—taking on the consequences so mercy can follow judgment—and even sings over those he loves. If you’ve ever wondered whether you’re seen or simply passed over, listen for a portrayal of God whose default is celebration and rescue, and imagine what it might feel like to be the object of that song.
