Cowboys 2026 Strategy: Defensive Rebuild and the Pickens Dilemma

Dallas Cowboys heading into the 2026 offseason following a disappointing losing season. The primary focus is a massive defensive overhaul, as the team struggles with high points allowed despite having a solid foundation at defensive tackle. Analysts suggest the front office must move beyond their traditional frugal free agency approach to secure veteran help at linebacker and safety. Additionally, the team faces a high-stakes decision regarding wide receiver George Pickens, with experts predicting a record-breaking contract or a franchise tag to keep him paired with Dak Prescott. Draft experts highlight the need for an elite pass rusher or secondary help to revitalize a unit that currently ranks among the league's worst. Ultimately, the team's success hinges on balancing salary cap constraints with the urgent need for defensive talent.
