Dallas Cowboys First-Round Pick: Safety Caleb Downs - A Game-Changer? The Dallas Cowboys made a bold move in the NFL Draft, selecting safety Caleb Downs in the first round. Downs, a former teammate of offensive lineman Tyler Booker at Alabama, is praised for his intelligence, leadership, and tackling skills. Despite average size, Downs is an elite tackler who disrupts plays from the line to deep coverage. The Cowboys, who struggled defensively last season, hope Downs will steady their unit and help them secure more wins. With five more picks on Saturday, including three in the fourth round, the Cowboys are positioning their defense to dominate early.
