Cowboys Dismiss Defensive Coordinator Matt Eberflus Following Historic Struggle

Following a historically poor performance, the Dallas Cowboys have dismissed defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus after only one season. Under his leadership, the unit surrendered a franchise-record 511 points, finishing last in the league for scoring defense. Ownership cited a necessary change in direction to meet team expectations, marking the fourth time in four years that Dallas will seek a new defensive leader. The defense struggled significantly after trading star pass rusher Micah Parsons and failing to generate a consistent rush or create turnovers. Despite some roster additions, injuries to key players and internal disagreements over defensive schemes further destabilized the group. The organization now faces a comprehensive defensive overhaul involving both coaching changes and significant roster turnover through the upcoming draft and free agency.
