Cracking The Culture Box
from A New Human Experience · host Winnie Oftuc
February 5th 2019 was Chinese New Year. In the Chinese culture, which is what I grew up in, Chinese New Year is a big deal. It's a great opportunity for a new beginning. I remember when I was a little kid I loved Chinese New Year's celebration. I got new clothes, new shoes, red pocket money etc.... It was a good 14 days of celebration. As I got older and got more present to the thought process behind religiously adhering to what the culture dictates I am no longer resonating with all the hustle and bustle of it. I feel the same way about Christmas, New Year and Birthdays. I just don't give them much importance any more. It is a day like any other and while I respect other people's practices I would rather pay more attention to experiencing every moment of now rather then being pulled by traditions and the rest of the culture landscape.
