In 2010, when she got her Bachelor’s degree in English, she didn’t know what she wanted to do, she just knew she didn’t want to be a teacher. After graduating and working for ten years in the service industry, she gave in and decided to become a teacher, even though she didn’t feel passionate about it, it felt like what she “should” be doing. Each day of her student teaching, it became more apparent that her heart wasn’t in it. Erin started to dread Mondays and count down until Fridays. There was a sign at the front of the classroom that she couldn’t bear to look at. It said “create the life you’ve always wanted.” It brought up so much shame for her because she knew this wasn’t the life she had always wanted, this was someone else’s dream.She realized she didn’t even KNOW what she wanted because she’d been so busy buying into what she “should want”.She decided to change that. Erin committed to discovering what she wanted and making that happen instead. Now she loves her work and looks forward to Mondays just as much as Fridays, and she gets to help other people let go of their “shoulds” and decide what they actually want.
