In 2021 he was invited to be the inaugural writer-in-residence at the Vashon Artist Residency and, most recently, he was a 2022 recipient of an Andy Warhol Writers Grant.Smith is a doctoral student in the History of American Civilization program at the University of Delaware, where he researches art, material culture, and the built environment.
