Creativity is Biography (The Creative Life)

from ThinkTech Hawaii · host Jay Fidell

Writing Your Narrative Story.  The host for this show is Phyllis Blees.  The guest is Susie McDaniel.   Human creativity springs from human beings. All that we are is what we bring to that moment in time, when creativity is called for at all stages of the family life cycle: from job changes, relocations, grief, and loss on the one hand, and simply what to make for dinner or where to go on vacation on the other hand. We learn that our biography is creativity. We learn how to create our biographies from Susie McDaniel, Ph.D. whose professional life’s work has been in family systems and family communication. We learn her signature method for guiding a decade of students at Loyola Marymount University to write, and in some cases produce, their own Story-Corps narratives of seminal events that led to creative breakthroughs. This is a very practical approach to self-discovery in the quest to connect the seeds of our creativity to the needs of our life and the world.  The seeds are our own family roles, rules, rituals, conflicts, learning, inherited traits, vision, values, and beliefs.
