Januar 1930: Nach einem Streit mit seiner Vermieterin wird der Student Horst Wessel von Unbekannten angeschossen. Die Polizei ist sicher: Das war eine politische Tat. Denn Anhänger von KPD und NSDAP liefern sich regelmäßig blutige Straßenkämpfe. Ein folgenreicher Kriminalfall, der den Zerfall der Weimarer Republik ankündigt.   Hinweis: In einer früheren Version dieser Folge gab es eine missverständliche Formulierung zum Verbot der SA. Richtig ist - die SA wurde während der Weimarer Republik zwei Mal verboten, dann wieder legalisiert und erst 1945 endgültig verboten. Wir haben die missverständliche Formulierung entfernt.
