After his honorable discharge from the Navy in 1972, Conniff went to Loyola University (grad 1975) and the Northern Illinois University Law School (grad 1978). Conniff then spent 6 years working as a Deputy Public Defender before turning to private practice, and during his career, he has been active in teaching and serving the legal and non legal communities with education and outreach.
