Email us: [email protected] begin our discussion about Critical Race Theory (CRT) with a Primer of sorts to lay down the foundation for what CRT is, it's origins, and the different aspects of its application in academia and the classroom. As Michael Scott says in the office, "Why don't you explain it to me like I'm five", and this is just the approach we took with this episode. Whether you've been studying CRT your whole life, or have very strong opposition to it, this episode will at least lay down the framework for understanding it and help us navigate this controversial topic and series. In the first of our three part series we talk with Daniel Hosang who is a Professor at Yale University and teaches Ethnicity Race & Migration, and  American Studies. He is a well respected scholar in this field and has worked with many of the pioneers of CRT, to include Kimberle Crenshaw. Guest Bio:Daniel Martinez HoSang received his BA in History from Wesleyan University and PhD in American Studies and Ethnicity from the University of Southern California. He is the author of Racial Propositions: Ballot Initiatives and the Making of Postwar California (University of California Press, 2010) which was awarded the 2011 James A Rawley Prize from the Organization of American Historians. He is co-editor, with Oneka LaBennett and Laura Pulido, of Racial Formation in the 21st Century (University of California Press, 2012).
