CROATIA. Integration into the EU

Croatia is close to become the 28th member of the EU, previewed on 1st July 2013. The Balkan country recently held a referendum of acceptance whose results showed a 66% of approval within a 44% of turnout. Around 20 years after getting its independence, Croatia looks at Europe no matter the troubles the Old Continent is dealing with. Precisely, many analysts wonder if this is the best moment for applying. Banner for the EU referendum (Inavukic.com) The integration into the EU27 is supposed to prosper the region -Croatia will be the second nation from the former Yugoslavia in joining it, after Slovenia did it in 2004-, still recovering from the bloody 90's, and will strongly back the role of the country in the Danube Strategy, one of the biggest projects where the Communitarian group is immersed in. However, even though the majority of the politicians have supported this idea, not everyone is for it. There are some citizens who consider this race as something more negative than prositive. It is understood, by them, as a loss of sovereignty, and save suspicion of these kind of unions keeping in mind their past.
