Crossed
from Poetry by Tim Windisch · host Tim Windisch
Crossed The red one is positive, black one’s negative you must use care Put the wrong one in the wrong place and you lose your hair Fried like an egg in a sizzling hot frying pan on the range Even if you don’t die, you look funny and act a bit strange Everything was making sense and I was sure I knew where I was going Then nothing looked familiar, felt confused and the F bombs were flowing But I didn’t check the wires, I never bothered looking at the map Neither seemed important to me cause I was too busy for that crap Blew the fuse, singed my hair, took a drive to blow some steam and got lost That’s just the way it goes when you hurry and you get your signals crossed Sunshine feels so wonderful but the warmth dissipates too fast How come the good stuff in life never seems to want to last Warm me long after the sun has tilted to the winter axis Ease my distressed emotions and make sure my mind relaxes You know how to connect the cables to make that engine turn Heard every word I said cause you didn’t want your hair to burn Those very same ears failed to hear my pleas or even acknowledge their existence Though you say that you can’t wait for our tomorrow’s they’re met with resistance Hop the fence, grab the dog, hit the road and get home babe at any cost The boys and I are waiting for you anticipating your arrival with fingers crossed Tim Windisch 06/20/2023
