Crossfire

from Brian G Walton · host Brian Walton

Brian first met Stevie Ray Vaughan in 1984 at the Austin Opry House while working for Capitol Records in Austin, Texas. As a reward for completing a project early, Brian received VIP tickets with backstage access to the Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble concert, giving him the chance to meet the band. Stevie had heard from his brother, Jimmy, about a talented new keyboardist from Nashville who was making waves in the Austin scene and also worked at Capitol Records. When introduced, Brian mentioned his role at Capitol Records, which made the connection for Stevie, leading to a lively conversation and a dressing room jam session that lasted for hours. Stevie’s passing in 1990 deeply affected Brian. The year before, Stevie's song "Crossfire" had premiered, and in tribute to the gifted guitarist who passed away too soon, Brian featured it in his program as a heartfelt homage. Written by Bill Carter, Ruth Ellsworth Carter, Tommy Shannon, Chris Layton, and Reese Wynans, as performed by Stevie Ray Vaughn. Recorded at the Oskar Blues Festival in Longmont, Colorado.
