Crowned With Glory, Bent Toward Idols
from Altars and Ashes Podcast Hosted by Austin W Tucker, B.D. Fleming, and Robbie Stringer
The modern world cannot decide whether man is a god or an animal. One minute, you’re an accident of biology. The next, you’re sovereign enough to define reality itself. Scripture gives a different answer: man is neither god nor beast. He is made in God’s image, crowned with glory, and commissioned to rule under his Maker. But the serpent’s promise still beats in the human chest: “Ye shall be as gods.” In this episode of Altars & Ashes, Austin Tucker, B.D. Fleming, and Robbie Stringer tackle the question beneath our fights over identity, education, sexuality, work, and human dignity: What is man? From Genesis to Romans, we examine why image-bearing means more than having value, how sin bends God’s good gifts toward idols, and why total depravity doesn’t mean every man is as wicked as he could be. The image survives the Fall. But no amount of education, technology, or political power can cure the rebellion in our hearts. Our hope is Christ, the perfect image of the invisible God, who redeems His people and conforms them to His likeness. Glory in the dust. An image in ruins. And hope in Christ.
