Crucified, Dead, and Buried
from John 19-21 · host R. Daniel Knox
After Jesus dies, the soldiers do not break his legs and a spear brings out blood and water, fulfilling Scripture that not a bone of him would be broken and that they would look on the one they pierced. Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus, once secret disciples, now openly honor his body with a costly burial in a new tomb. The scene marks a reversal: the crucified one begins to draw his own to himself, as the gospel was written so that all who read may believe.
