Crushing Comics Podcast, Episode 0037: Epic X-Men Re-Read – Uncanny X-Men (1963) #112-113
from Crushing Comics · host Crushing Comics
Listen in as Tyler and Peter re-explore the classic Claremont X-Men material, with Fariha reading it FOR THE FIRST TIME! In this episode we read Uncanny X-Men (1963) #112-113 and corresponding back-up stories from Classic X-Men (1986) #18-19. In UXM #112-113, Magneto has the X-Men cornered, first in his magical magnetic flying wagon, and then in his under-volcano base in Antarctica. The team cannot work together to defeat him, and Jean is afraid to push herself to overpower him, so the team become his captives! And, Magneto has a specific revenge in mind after his time spent as an infant at the hands of Xavier and Moira. Classic X-Men #18 shows us just how much power Jean might be wielding (and keeping secret from the team), while Classic X-Men #19 is a riveting tale of Magneto as a Nazi-hunter who things the only good Nazi is a dead Nazi. It's certainly one of the stories that influenced the version of Magneto in X-Men First Class! Our conversation includes some minor comments and spoilers for House of X and Powers of X - especially for House of X #2, so you've been warned! We also comment very broadly on Reign of X, but in a non-spoiler fashion.
