Cry Out in Judgment

A — What is this about? This passage describes the severity of God's judgment on the land through famine, drought, and devastation. Joel calls priests and people alike to mourn, fast, and gather before the Lord, recognizing that these calamities are meant to awaken hearts to repentance and dependence on God. B — Best verse to summarize this passage: "Consecrate a fast, call a sacred assembly; gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of the Lord your God, and cry out to the Lord." (Joel 1:14) C — What are we called to do? We are called to take sin seriously, to examine our hearts honestly, and to respond to hardship with repentance, fasting, prayer, and renewed trust in the Lord rather than indifference or self-reliance.
