Oh boy, over Christmas, my sister-in-law got big into crypto. Nothing wrong with that—just not sure she totally understands the tax implications. Remember, crypto is just like any other investment or stock. They’re going to tax you, and tracking it is key. So often, my crypto people think, “Okay, I take U.S. dollars, turn it into Bitcoin, then from Bitcoin, I went to Ethereum or whatever, and now there’s no paper trail.” That’s not true. If you ever bring it back to U.S. currency, all of those transactions become taxable. You’re not hiding, and if you want to sleep well at night, you better track it—that’s all I can say.
