Injustice and racial inequality are centuries-old problems. While progress has been made, the fact remains there’s plenty of work still to be done. As a cultural anthropologist, Tomiko Shine has dedicated her life to disrupting the U.S.’s criminal justice system. Her mission is to shine a light on the glaring disparities heavily affecting incarcerated African Americans and creating a little “uncomfortability” to disrupt the system and drive systemic change.
