Cubs Collapse Late Again

The Cubs’ playoff push took a hit Saturday as they blew a five-run lead against the Blue Jays, falling 8-6 in a bullpen meltdown. Kazuma Okamoto’s three-run homer in the eighth sealed it, while Jacob Webb’s shaky outing cost him the loss. Despite Pete Crow-Armstrong’s stellar performance — his 23-game on-base streak continuing with a HR, single, and walk — the offense couldn’t overcome the pitching collapse. With injuries forcing starters into relief roles and inconsistency plaguing the bullpen, the Cubs need reinforcements, especially in starting pitching. Good news: closer Daniel Palencia’s mild flexor strain is manageable, and Webb must refocus to help stabilize the backend. Every game now matters as the season heats up.
