The Cubs make a bold pitching pivot with their 23rd overall pick: right-hander Cade Townsend, a 6’1” sophomore from Ole Miss who boasts a mid-90s fastball and a solid secondary arsenal. After years of prioritizing position players, this draft signals a strategic shift as the Cubs invest in pitching depth, hoping Townsend’s 5-3 record, 88 Ks, and 3.94 ERA translate into major league success.
