Cultivating Gratitude: Acknowledging the Presence + Provision of God

from Woven in Truth Podcast · host Mallory Melcher-Post

In this episode, Mallory moves to the other side of the microphone to talk about her recent study and journey of cultivating gratitude. She shares that the peace of our souls as women has a direct correlation to our thankfulness to God. In a world that tells us to dwell on what we don’t have and who we are not, how do we foster gratitude and care for what we’ve already been given? About the Speaker:Mallory Melcher-Post is your hyphenated host on the Woven in Truth podcast. She is a 28-year-old mom of a toddler named Ellie Jo and has been obsessed with her husband, Jeremy, since she was 19 years old. She lives in San Diego, California but is forever a midwesterner at heart. Mallory is passionate about facilitating platforms for women to connect, inspire, and biblically empower one another. She spends a lot of her time looking for rocks with her toddler, walking aimlessly around Costco, or crying over heartwarming videos on Facebook. Episode Notes:Metacognition- What we allow ourselves to dwell on, what we focus on, is what develops in our lives- it’s what grows. Proverbs 23:7- “For as she thinks in his heart, so is she” {Pronoun changed by Speaker}God has been teaching me that the peace of our souls must be tied to our gratitude to Him.Gratitude is the active and engaged certainty, awareness & acknowledgment of the presence and provision of God himself.“If you want to find happiness, find gratitude.” What stops us from being grateful? -Comparison, goals, entitlement, discouragement, distractionsRegardless of which of these is standing in the way of my gratitude, they boil down to the same root- I genuinely believe it’s a matter of perspective:“What a glorious God! He gives us salvation over and over, then daily he carries our burdens! Pause in his presence”Psalms 68:19 TPT1. PAUSING FOR PERSPECTIVE-Psalm 19:14 May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer. Is what you are focused on, is your current attitude and perspective, pleasing to God?Colossians 3- set your hearts on things above, not on earthly things. But it’s so easy to zoom back in to my worldly, human, and present perspective if I’m not intentional. You know even in my relationships. I can get so focused on the day to day difficulties, interactions, needs I have, expectations that are getting disappointed- that I can lose perspective.Biblical gratitude doesn’t diminish or invalidate our trials, it just puts them in the correct lighting. 2 Corinthians 4:17“We view our slight, short-lived troubles in the light of eternity.PRACTICALSGratitude journalTrying to limit or manage distractions so you have the room to pauseDedicating prayers to exclusive gratitude Resenting present circumstances keeps us discontent. Keeps us waiting. As if our best life was still on layaway- waiting to be lived. 2. GRATITUDE CANNOT BE TIED TO CIRCUMSTANCES Its not our circumstances that take us out, but it’s how we think about them. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 — “In every situation [no matter what the circumstances] be thankful and continually give thanks to God; for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.”Psalm 106:1, “Praise the LORD. Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.”“TSupport the showThank you so much for supporting the show. Check out our website or follow us Instagram!
