Cultivating the Art of Deep Work Part 3: Working for Wellbeing

from Psychology to Live By · host Dr. Chris Stevens

In ‘Cultivating the Art of Deep Work Part 3’ we examine ways to use work for wellbeing.  Our body, especially our brain, is built to modulate its activities.  It is not meant to be constantly ‘on’.  We are designed to rest between tasks, to reset our systems and then to re-engage.   One method to support this is Adam Fraser’s use of ‘Third Spaces’ to reflect, rest and re-set between tasks.  We also explore ways to establish both physical and psychological boundaries between work and other aspects of life to better integrate all the valued activities in our life that support wellbeing. These include using a buffer activity between work and non-work; planning the next day carefully so you can put it out of mind; and choosing to be fully present to loved ones, music, eating etc.
