Las condiciones en que los artistas trabajaron durante la dictadura de Uruguay en los años 70 estuvo marcada por la censura y las formas de evadirla en el teatro independiente, la música y el carnaval. Casi 40 años después pero en Nicaragua, las personas artistas también han sido sujetos a la censura, la represión y el exilio de otra dictadura, la de Daniel Ortega y Rosario Murillo, quienes se han encargado que artistas y promotores de espectáculos vivan en una situación bastante precaria. La represión incluye restricciones para registrarse y operar, restricciones en eventos, prohibiciones de uso de ciertos equipos y amenazas de multas y cárcel, provocando el cierre de pequeñas empresas promotoras y han dejado a muchos artistas sin trabajo.
