Cultural Appropriation or Censorship?

Multiculturalism has to be understood not as an end in itself but as the byproduct of a globalised economy. And in the global markets Culture is not a mere abstract involving notions of national identity and State sponsored rhetoric; it is, more than anything else, a commodity. Its products and artefacts are sold and valued like anything else. No wonder why in an era of Culture as a spectacle, academics and intellectuals speak of cultural appropriation as a way of protecting less privileged ethnics groups and minorities from racism. But is this so? And if it is, what would happen to highly hybrid art forms like music? Who will be the policemen of cultural appropriation and the gatekeepers of culture?
