Curating Career Life Stories: How Did I Get Here? Ep. 83 with Komal Goyal Part Two
from Curating Career Life Stories: How did I get here? · host Kathy Lawless
Join me for Part Two of the career reflections of Komal Goyal, managing partner at 6e Technologies. Born and raised in India, a defining moment for her as a young woman, is choosing education and a career over the tradition of marriage. Leading to another pivotal decision, counter to the wishes of her mother and the norms of her culture, accepting a job in a city far from her family. It’s been a tough road being the only female programmer at several companies. Regularly she finds she’s not included in discussions with male colleagues collaborating to solve problems or in after-hours activities. She starts doubting herself, her self-esteem declining over time. Finally, she finds a company and culture where right away they seek her input, participation and collaboration. A wonderful experience where she thrives! Giving her the confidence to launch out as a consultant and ultimately take over as managing partner of the consulting firm. No surprise that persistence and perseverance is what’s served her best. Her words of wisdom: “Make a decision and take action in a timely manner, if you don’t, the universe will make it for you.”
