Current State of the Serbia-Kosovo Relations
from MCC GeoPod · host Mathias Corvinus Collegium
The issue of Kosovo continues to be a divisive one in both the Balkans and international politics. Following the unilateral declaration of independence in 2008, international organisations, including the UN and later the EU and key states were involved in the mediation and normalisation process, and many roadmaps were accepted over the past fifteen years. The political level remains to be problematic in terms of the recognition of Kosovo, but key achievements could be witnessed in the 2010's such as the introduction of integrated border management between Serbia and Kosovo. Besides such important steps, Serbian president Aleksandar Vučić is seemingly trying to win time in the settlement process. In the meantime, pragmatic cooperation gains ground and social and business interactions intensify.Szabolcs Janik had the honour to discuss the current state of the Serbia-Kosovo relations and their broader impact with professor Miša Đurković, director of the Belgrade-based think-tank Institute of European Studies. In the current MCC podcast episode, you can also learn about Hungary's strategy and interests in the mentioned process.
