CURTAILING GOVERNMENT: Why a legal precedent from a NSW challenge could benefit us all

A LEGAL CHALLENGE against NSW's rushed gun laws could produce something that could benefit the shooting sports for the next twenty years. NSW Premier, Chris Minns, and his government will fight hard to avoid losing this legal challenge, but the real question we see is what, if any, legal precedent could be set if these challenges go ahead. A successful High Court or Supreme Court challenge could establish a legal precedent that could limit what governments can do on firearms legislation. That’s something no state, territory or federal government would want to see – because currently they do what they want, without anyone looking over their shoulders. That’s where the right legal challenge could unpick this – which, if we’re right, could put a stop to the sort of attacks on shooters we saw happen in NSW and recently in WA.
