Cushing Steps In as Barre’s New City Manager | Montpelier News

Barre just snagged a surprise city manager—Patrick Cushing, who resigned from his previous post in Killington after a rocky ten months marked by staff cuts and policy disputes. With Barre’s original search collapsing as top candidates backed out, Cushing stepped in last-minute, landed a one-year contract, and now commutes from Killington to lead the city. The council saw him as a strong pick, endorsed by consultants and impressed by his background in public service, criminal justice, and even Deloitte. The mayor calls it an “extended job interview,” hoping for a permanent hire. Cushing’s fresh start is already underway—and he’s focused on rebuilding trust and driving change in Barre.
