CwL Ep 5: I'm Still Standing - A conversation on honouring rest

from Conversations with Lisa: This Moment in Time · host Lisa Corduff

Bringing this episode to life is Elton John's I'm Still Standing. It's obviously a timeless classic, but the meaning for me has changed over the years. I used to sing along and think "But how?? How am I still standing with all of this going on?" I relied on my high-functioning tendencies and my ability to 'push through' and thought that I was doing okay. Ummm... thanks, shingles, for letting me know that I definitely wasn't okay! So pushing through is not the message of this episode. These days, I know why I'm still standing and it's because I prioritise rest. I've got space in my life to do nothing. And absolutely no guilt about that. How much space to rest, really rest, do you have in your life? What do you tell yourself about resting? In this episode, I share three ways that I've incorporated more rest in order to still be standing. Plus, I've also got a stack of questions to help you try to break through that thought barrier of "but there just isn't enough time to rest."As my mentor, James Wedmore says The Rest Is The Work!!Key takeaways •Sleep is essential to good health and happiness and the more consistently we get ourselves to bed, the more our bodies love it. For me and my circadian rhythm, bed in the 9s is what feels good so I can be up and energised around 5 or 5:30 am. Have you figured out what bedtime feels good for you and your body? •When you strip away all the activities and commitments and make real space to do less, you create an opportunity to consciously build back in the things that feel good, the things that don't disrupt the level of peace and rest you've achieved in your house. •You don't have to go to a meditation retreat to get the benefits of rest. Creativity and inspiration might be heightened when in holiday mode, but who says that has to stop when you get back home? If you enjoy that feeling and want it in your everyday life, you've got to get responsible for bringing it in.LinksConnect with Lisa on Facebook and InstagramContinue your conversation with Lisa on SubstackKnow someone who would love this episode? Share it with them here (um, and a hefty handful of stars would be greatly appreciated!)
