Cyber sense, making sense of scams: When the work-from-home job sounds a little too easy

This week’s Cyber Sense feature focuses on “laptop farming”, a growing cyber scam linked to fake work-from-home opportunities being advertised online. Lester Kiewit speaks to Boikokobetso Makhetloane, also known online as Mr Fingerz, a cybersecurity expert, educator, trainer, and TikTok content creator, following a recent video he posted warning South Africans about remote job offers that may appear legitimate on the surface. The discussion explores how some scammers allegedly recruit people to install software on their laptops and leave devices running continuously, while remote operators use those machines for activities the owner may know little or nothing about.
