美國最高法院週五（6月24日）以6票贊成、3票反對推翻了羅訴韋德案（Roe v.Wade），這一里程碑式的裁決意味著推翻了50年前寫入憲法規定的墮胎權。  最高法院這一裁決雖具有爭議但又在意料之中。在羅訴韋德案被推翻之後，各州將有權制定自己的墮胎法，而不必擔心觸犯之前憲法中的規定。  羅訴韋德案是1973年寫入憲法的，允許婦女在懷孕的前兩個階段（Trimester）進行墮胎。  在最高法院的最新裁決之後，幾乎一半的州預計將取締或嚴格限制墮胎，其它州則會維持對終止妊娠的鬆散規定。
