What's going on everybody, Anthony Campbell here, your coach and host of the Be Battle Ready Podcast and today I want to talk to you about the battle of playing small. So sit back, relax, and I'll see you on the other side. Welcome to the Be Battle Ready Podcast where we take a deep dive into what it takes to be battle ready in your lifestyle and in your business so you can go to war on your life and the marketplace and win. All right, all right, all right.
So today I want to talk to you about playing small. I was listening to my coach, my mentor, Jesse, who will have a base lifestyle talk about his own podcast on his own podcast about playing small and it really got me to reflect on all the times and all the ways that I play small. You know, it goes back to, you know, going all the way back to high school and, you know, we had this thing that was, it was taboo to be a practice all-star and, you know, me, when I love competing, I love going to battle. I love going to war when it comes to sports.
Like I'm not a, I never served in the military, but, you know, I went on, played football, played rugby, and it was because of that competition of being able to go toe-to-toe, go face-to-face and try to, you know, play together as a team to go to war. But, you know, one of the cultural things on our teams was not being a practice all-star. We used to call this a Baker Street all-star because one of the streets right by us was a small little residential street called Baker and it was taboo. And I remember coming back, you know, this is where I got in real, I got in a lot of trouble doing this, and this is where some of this playing small comes from, is, is I, I, I came back off my ACL surgery, I had to do it all my junior year, and I came back going into my junior year spring into my, you know, getting ready for my senior year, and it was the first day of full contact, we used to not go pads, and I, I made a mistake, and I read something the wrong way, and I hit somebody, I hit a friend and a teammate pretty hard, and he had to go get his jaw checked out because I almost thought he broke his jaw, and we weren't in any pads or anything like that, threw my shoulder into his face, and it was full contact, you know, I mean, but the thing was is that, A, I read something wrong, and B, I went to, like, it was taboo to go that hard in practice.
I was just pumped out, and it's my first day back, first day of contact, and it was like, contact for me was an addiction, it was my opportunity to bring out that dark warrior inside me, to bring out that fire, that, that, that power, and, and, and release it into the world, right, and into sport, and then have that battle, so, you know, that, that was, that became a taboo of playing small, playing, you know, not going all out, and, you know, and when you get into certain situations, you know that, that continues on throughout the rest of your life, if you're too intense, you know, people don't like it, if you're too emotional, people don't like it, if you're too, like, honest, people don't like it, right, our, our society and everybody is conditioning us to play, to be good, right, not be great, so we condition ourselves not to be great, we condition ourselves to be good, and, you know, I, I, I share the same, same, just as Jesse mentioned in this podcast, is, is, I remember this song about your light, letting your light shine, I grew up in a Southern Baptist Christian church, uh, in school, and all that stuff, and what, one of the songs we used to, that used to sing is, this little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine, I'm gonna let it shine, let it shine, let it shine, am I gonna hide it under a bushel, no, like, it's all about letting your light shine, and I want to connect to this, and I'm gonna share some other things, but I want you to consider that, you know, your purpose, your, the trials and tribulations inside your life, throughout the journey of your life, is a test for you to get your light to shine, right, to get your light to shine in all areas of your life, like, you have a certain pattern that you continue to repeat over, and over, and over, and over again, and this pattern has to do with, um, you know, something that you, yourself, emotionally, spiritually, you know, your being, your physical, earthly being, and your spiritually being, need to overcome, need to rebuild themselves, need to really face and do this thing, right, you know, I had a mentor tell me at one point, you know, that our, our job, our mission, you know, as, uh, you know, humans is to rewrite, one of the things we're supposed to do is rewrite the sins of our father, or forefathers, and I took that literally, and, you know, this thing of playing small ties into this, like, ties into, like, these patterns, ties into all this, and, you know, I want you to, I want to know, like, where are you not playing all out, and all in, and you might be asking yourself, why does it matter, you know, I just shared, like, it's to really, you know, at the end of your life, are you gonna look back and say, man, I'm glad I played small, I'm glad I hid from the call to let my light shine, are you playing all in, or are you all, are you playing, and you're, are you playing all out, are you just not, like, are you just hiding, because when you hide, and you do this stuff, you don't know, you, you live this unfulfilled, you have this yearning for something that you cannot put on, you cannot put your finger on, so, you know, as I digress, uh, you know, the lesson is, I want you to ask yourself, what is the worst thing that could happen if you didn't play small, if you were all in and all out, and if you played all in and all out, what's the worst thing that could happen, and, you know, ask yourself, is, is it really worth, is what's stopping you really worth it, would you rather be comfortable, or would you rather grow, and this, like, who would you become, who would you become, who would you become, if you just leaned into those fears, who would you become, who, what would you know, what would you have, how would it shift your perspective, your life, across all areas of your life, in your fitness, in your health, right, in your mindset, in your spirituality, in the relationship with your, your, your significant other, in relationship with your kids, relationship with the loved ones around you, and how would this impact your income, because maybe you're playing small, and you think you can't, when actually you can, you're just not meeting the call, see, when you play small, you don't need the call, when you lean into that fear, you need that call, and you become, you take one more step into the person you, who you're becoming, who you're meant and destined to become, so I want to sign off there, hey, you know, I have a 21-day protocol, that gets you not to play small, call it what you want, I call it a breakthrough bootcamp, but it's a 21-day protocol, to get you to face the things in your life, to get you to face the reality, the facts, the feelings, and all the things that are really holding you back, because you don't need any more tactics, you don't need any more strategies, you just need to go, you need to lean into your fears, because those are the ones that are guiding, you need to find your guiding light, your inspiration, your intuition, you need to learn how to connect to that, look, go, go ahead and just send me a message on Facebook, easy to find, and we can get that conversation started, so I look forward to supporting you, and I'll talk to you soon.
