In 2 Samuel 24 and 1 Chronicles 21, David’s sinful pride leads him to number Israel, bringing judgment upon the nation. Yet in the middle of justice, God reveals mercy through David’s repentance and the sacrifice at the threshing floor of Araunah—a place that points forward to God’s greater provision. Romans 4 explains that righteousness has never been earned through human effort but has always come by faith, just as Abraham was counted righteous because he believed God. Together, these chapters remind us that while sin brings consequences, God’s mercy is greater, and righteousness is received by faith alone.
