In the garden before His arrest, Jesus prayed that this cup of judgment would pass from Him, yet the Father did not take it away. Jesus drank it completely, in your place, so judgment fell fully on Him instead of on you. That is why the cup He later gave His disciples is an entirely different cup, not wrath, but the cup of His own blood, poured out for the forgiveness of sins. There we find true grace, forgiveness, and salvation, freely given through His finished work. Through His redemption we are welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven, and in the Lord's Supper you receive that very cup at the altar, His true body and blood, carrying forgiveness rather than condemnation.Remember which cup belongs to you. The cup of judgment fell on Jesus. The cup you are given is the cup of blessing.
