Daily Devotions: Discouragement - June 8, 2026

1 Kings 19:4 (ESV) - “But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness and came and sat down under a broom tree. And he asked that he might die, saying, ‘It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life, for I am no better than my fathers.’” In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall examines the story of Elijah and the powerful effects of discouragement. Even after experiencing a great victory, Elijah became overwhelmed, exhausted, and discouraged. His words, perspective, and outlook on life were deeply affected by what he was feeling. Pastor Sumrall explains that discouragement often causes people to focus on the negative, forget God's recent victories, and see situations through a distorted lens. Elijah believed he was alone and that everyone was against him, even though God had already been working through many others. Discouragement changed how he viewed both himself and the circumstances around him.
