Luke 7:47 (ESV) - “Therefore I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven—for she loved much. But he who is forgiven little, loves little.” In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall teaches that Jesus does not respond to words alone, but to the heart behind them. In Luke 7, while a Pharisee appeared respectful outwardly, his inner thoughts were critical. Jesus responded not to what was said aloud, but to what was in his heart, revealing truth and correction. Pastor Sumrall explains that people can have clumsy words but sincere hearts, while others may speak politely yet carry wrong motives. As followers of Christ, we must learn to discern beyond words and respond with wisdom and patience, just as Jesus did. God sees our hearts clearly, he responds to what is truly within us, and as leaders, we are called to do the same—listening carefully, showing grace, and addressing the heart, not just the words.
