Proverbs 5:21–23 (NLT) - “For the LORD sees clearly what a man does, examining every path he takes. An evil man is held captive by his own sins; they are ropes that catch and hold him. He will die for lack of self-control; he will be lost because of his great foolishness.” In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall highlights the truth that God is not controlling, but sin is. God created us with free will. He does not force obedience, love, or devotion. Sin, however, does the opposite. Scripture teaches that people are held captive by their own sins, bound not by God, the church, or the Word, but by the choices they surrender to. Sin promises freedom but delivers control, loss of self-discipline, and destruction. God liberates, while sin enslaves. Real freedom is found in exercising self-control and choosing to walk away from what binds us.
