Dallas decided Wednesday to sacrifice some of its power to keep the region’s transit service alive. The high-stakes move is aimed at stopping a half-dozen suburbs from bolting from the Dallas Area Rapid Transit. In other news, the Dallas City Council turned to a new search firm Wednesday to recruit a watchdog responsible for sniffing out wasteful spending, fraud and corruption in City Hall; and after four years as chief of the southern Dallas County school district, DeSoto ISD Superintendent Usamah Rodgers is retiring.
