Dangers to [Young] Men 1. One danger to [young] men is pride  Pride sits in all our hearts by nature. Dangers to [Young] Men
1. One danger to [young] men is pride
 Pride sits in all our hearts by nature. We are all born proud.
 Pride makes us rest content with ourselves – think we are good enough as we are – keep us from taking advice –refuse the gospel of Christ – turn everyone to his own way.
 Do not be proud of your own abilities, your own strength, your own knowledge, your own appearance, and your own
cleverness. The older you grow and the more you see, the less reason you will find for being proud.
 Verses: Romans 12:3, 1 Cor. 8:2, Colossians 3:12, 1 Peter 5:5
 Do not be too confident in your own judgment. Stop being so sure that you are always right, and others wrong.
 Humility and silence are beautiful graces.
 Never be ashamed of being a learner…the wisest men are always learners and are humbled to find after all how little
they know.
2. Another danger to [young] men is the love of pleasure
 Verses: 1 Pet. 2:11, Col. 3:5, Gal. 5:24, 1 Cor. 9:27, Rom. 13:14
 If you cling to earthly pleasures, they will all be empty and pointless…if you take your fill of them you will not be
satisfied.
 “Flee sexual immorality” (1 Cor. 6:18)…flee from the opportunity of it – from the company of those who might
draw you into it – from the places where you might be tempted to do it. Flee from talking about it. Flee from the
thoughts of it; resist them, destroy them, pray against them – make any sacrifice rather than give way to them.
Imagination is the hotbed where this sin is often hatched.
3. Another danger to [young] men is thoughtlessness
 Learn to be thoughtful. Learn to consider what you are doing, and where you are going. Make time for calm
reflection and to be still.
4. Another danger to [young] men is the fear of man’s opinion
 It is terrible to observe the power which it has over most minds.
 Few seem to think for themselves; most go with the stream and tide.
 There are not many original thinkers…most are like sheep, they follow a leader. They dread the idea of going against the current of the times.
 In a word, the opinion of the day becomes their religion, their creed, their Bible, and their god.
 The thought, “What will my friends say or think of me?” nips many a good inclination in the bud. The fear of being
looked at, laughed at, ridiculed, prevents many a good habit from being taken up.
 I want you to be free from this bondage. I want each of you to care nothing about man’s opinion when the path of
duty is clear.
 Learn to say “No!” Don’t let the fear of not seeming good-natured make you unable to do it.

The Deeper Christian Life Andrew Murray If you were put on trial for being a Christian, would you be convicted? Christians have asked themselves this question, or ones like it, for millennia. In his book, The Deeper Christian Life, Andrew Murray helps us come to grips with those nagging insecurities in our Christian walk. A shallow relationship with God leads us down a road of doubt and insecurities. Can I be forgiven? How can I forgive? Murray tells us that we can go deeper in our relationship with God, and with that deeper relationship comes growing confidence and joy in the gospel. That joy springs from the knowledge of God's grace in forgiving us, and enables us to extend that grace to others in our lives. We have no right to be content with saying "Lord, Lord;" we must do the things which He says. Of course, the right kind of obedience is impossible, apart from the Cross and the Spirit. We must be reconciled before we can become obedient children; we must be filled with the Spirit before "the fragrance of Christ" can be manifested through us in every place. The Sermon on the Mount must be read in the transfiguring light which shines backwards from the later events in our Lord's life. When, however, this is borne in mind, each sentence of that marvelous discourse glistens with celestial radiance, and rings with the music of the Gospel. In such a spirit let us
