Daniel 1
from Beyond the Message Hosted by Veritas Church
This week on Beyond the Message, Sam and Jake discuss yesterday’s sermon from Daniel 1 and that God is faithful to His Word so we can be faithful in the world. We unpack the main points from the sermon and go beyond yesterday with additional insight into the text. In Daniel 1, we explored how conviction beats conformity, why small daily resolves prepare us for furnace-and-lions-den moments, and how God’s sovereignty fuels courage. We trace the pressure-cooker of Babylon (new names, new education, new comforts), the danger of getting too “at home” here, and the surprising way obedience leads to closeness with God and impact for God. Message Highlights Babylon’s playbook: rename, retrain, rewire desires Daniel’s secret weapon: pre-decided convictions, not in-the-moment guesses God gave… favor, wisdom, outcomes—sovereignty clearly displayed Faithfulness in little things → readiness for big things The better Daniel: Jesus’ obedience frees us from captivity Resources Currently Available at the Veritas Church Bookstore: Daniel For You Evangelism as Exiles Thriving in Babylon The Rise and Triumph of the Modern Self Daniel ESV Scripture Journal
