DANIEL: Facing the Fire

from Life at Pathway Hosted by Pathway Church

Last week we started a sermon series working our way through the book of Daniel in the Old Testament. In the first two chapters, we met Daniel and his three friends, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah, or Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego and we saw their faithfulness in the midst of great trial. We also met the king, Nebuchadnezzar who was the head of the immensely powerful kingdom of Babylon. And as chapter 2 was coming to a close, we saw that Nebuchadnezzar had a statue on his mind too. It came through a dream that Daniel interpreted for him, leading the king to set Daniel up in a high position in his kingdom. Well, as chapter 3 opens today, there is another statue that is featured prominently in the account. This one isn’t from a dream, it’s a construction project of the king. And it is going to cause some serious issues for Daniel’s friends. It is going to put them under fire both figuratively and literally. It sets up one of the most loved and best-known events of the bible. But they aren’t the only ones who come under fire. As we move into chapters 4 and 5, we’re going to see others who face a fire of their own. And in each case, the responses are different and teach us something different about God and how He is calling us to live. We invite you to listen in today as we continue our new series through the book of Daniel.
