Daniel explains that he grew up attending a Lutheran church on Long Island but did not fully understand the gospel until age 14, when his brother returned from California with a dramatically changed life and introduced him to the idea of being “born again.” That conversation led Daniel to make his own personal commitment to Christianity and begin viewing faith as a relationship with God rather than simply a religious tradition.Daniel recounts two experiences that became turning points in his life.In 2001, after suffering chronic back pain for roughly ten years, Daniel attended a men’s retreat in Montauk. While waiting in line to receive prayer, he says the pain suddenly disappeared before anyone physically prayed over him.A year later, Daniel was diagnosed with B-cell lymphoma and says doctors discovered a massive tumor in his chest that was pressing against his pulmonary artery. He describes being told that the cancer was inoperable and that chemotherapy would determine whether he survived.During a hospital stay, Daniel says he surrendered his future to God, praying that whether he lived or died, he wanted his life to serve a greater purpose. At a later scan, Daniel says doctors found no remaining tumor or cancer.
