Jean-Loup Chrétien, premier spationaute français à être allé dans l’espace, participe en 1982 à une première mission franco-soviétique à bord de la station Saliout 7. En 1988, toujours avec les Soviétiques, il rejoint la station Mir à partir de laquelle il effectue une sortie extra-véhiculaire, devenant ainsi le premier « piéton » européen de l’espace.Enfin, en 1997, il vole avec les Américains à bord de la navette spatiale Atlantis. Jean-Loup Chrétien a raconté ses deux expériences franco-soviétiques dans « Sonate au clair de terre » dont Gérard Maoui lit un extrait.
